It rises among the streets of Brera, one of Milan’s neighborhoods where art and creativity could be said to be at home, and it’s one of the city’s most chic apartments. This is the Milanese outpost of Casa Canvas, a creative studio and design gallery founded in 2016 by Brazilian designer and fashion buyer Thayse Viégas.
Enriched by the experience gained in the plains of Brianza, where Casa Canvas first took shape within the spaces of a historic villa, Viégas decided to relocate and bring her concept to the Italian capital of art and design. Thus, the Via Solferino apartment was born: a hybrid between a home and a gallery, featuring a selection of contemporary pieces by emerging designers, rare vintage designer objects, and artworks, all set within a 130-square-meter domestic space.
In Thayse Viégas’s Milan project, developed in collaboration with Milan-based architect and stylist Nazarena Manenti, even the most unexpected details and functional spaces are treated with the same care as the paintings lining the walls and the collectible design pieces that fill every corner of the home. This is evident in the kitchen, created in partnership with Very Simple: Kitchen. For this project, the kitchen’s minimalist lines engage in a dialogue with the elegance and sophistication that define Casa Canvas.
The project is set within a spacious, bright room featuring a terrazzo floor and exposed wooden beams on the ceiling. It unfolds through a linear wall configuration and a wheeled module with shelving. The neutral "Champagne" tone, selected by Casa Canvas for the structure, highlights the kitchen countertop in Paradiso marble, defined by bold veining that runs vertically along the wall before folding into the form of a small shelf.
Casa Canvas and Very Simple: Kitchen celebrated their collaboration with an experiential event, inviting guests to move through the apartment's living spaces and intimately engage with the kitchen's bespoke materials and finishes, a tangible manifestation of their creative alliance.
